Greener Condo's the Standard

There are many condo developments across the GTA and they have to comply with a set of rules and regulations. The Condos are inspected by architects and engineers of different specializations to ensure they meet the criteria.

Condos currently being built in the GTA invest a lot of capital into energy-efficient technology, from solar panels to lighting systems, they try to find as many green appliances they can implement into their designs. Condos built across the GTA must comply with the Toronto Green Standard, which is a two-tier set of performance measures related to sustainable site and building design for public development. These standards also focus on condos that try to create a safer environment for residents in the area.

As a result, condo developers are in constant contact with companies that specialize in green building programs to make their condo the most energy efficient. Many developers often exceed the standards which increases the benchmark for new developments. With all the global warming and conserving energy issues, developers are trying the best they can to build communities that are environmentally responsible and energy efficient.

This year is dubbed "the year of the condo" by real estate agents across Canada, because of the strong performance in the country's major housing markets. The condo phenomenon is something that is happening all over North America. The performance of the GTA's top-tier condominium market eclipsed that of other major Canadian markets in both sales volume and percentage gains in 2017. Sales of $1-million-plus condominiums were up 59 per cent year-over-year within the region, with luxury sales over $4 million up 91 per cent over the previous year.
