So imagine a quiet Friday night, you, your loved ones and your teenage son, all of a sudden you hear a knock on the door, and who else but 200 teenagers looking for a party. Sounds a bit off, but this was one family's reality in Mississauga this past weekend. The teenage son was looking to have a small get together at his house with some friends, which he spread the word through social media, However it quickly got out of hand. Initially it was thought to be a prank, but the hashtag #ProjectXHouseParty quickly caught their eye and the teens quickly flocked to the home in Lorne Park. From 9pm to 1am Police were called in to help notify the teens that there was no party taking place and that the only flashing lights teens would see is that of a police car. In an interesting story, developers Four Twenty Corporation have completed construction on a home in 2011 only to be ordered by the supreme court to have it removed. The land the house was built on was already owned by the Rose Nulman Park Foundation, In an attempt to salvage the home Owner Robert Lamoureux had attempted to strike a deal with the Park foundation to no avail. The corporation is in a losing battle as the Park foundations had been preserving the land to keep it as a park and maintaining the public's interest who desired a park as well. Permits have been acquired by the Four Twenty Corporation to relocate the house but still has one pending. While the idea of the developer building a house on land that was already previously owned is bad, perhaps the brunt of the scrutiny comes towards the designer and the house itself. In an attempt to help relieve the traffic congestion that plagues Mississauga, the city has been considering the idea of adding more lanes from Bancroft road towards Old Creditview Road. The current situation along that stretch of Creditview road sees one lane going each way with traffic build up occurring in the early morning hours along with the usual rush hour traffic in the evening due to the financial district of Mississauga located just north at Financial Drive. Marlys Komalski a member of the Creditview expansion awareness committee has expressed her concern as the stretch from Bancroft to Old Creditview road carries with it a scenic view of the Credit river along with much forestry and wildlife. Tim Hudak has announced his ambitions towards improving subway service and existing GO stations. This comes as a major development in the race for Ontario provincial premier. Mississauga mayor Hazel Mccallion was shocked by the statement Hudak made claiming that subways investment cost four times as much as the dedication to the LRT. The LRT is proposed to run from Queen street in Brampton south to Lakeshore road in Mississauga. The long term action plan of the LRT is scheduled for projected completion in 2022 pending appropriate funding. What does this mean for the residents of Mississauga? While the worry of Mississauga residents is evident of their city becoming over flooded with buildings, the image of Lake Ontario will remain. In an effort to help pay for infrastructure costs development charges will increase up to 54%. Those looking to purchase a newly constructed house will have to dig even deeper in their pocket. A 54% increase in development charges will result in a rising fee upwards of $10,000. While the 54% seems steep, another proposal for a 75% increase in charges for multiple separate housing units.
